Happy New Year and A Gift!
I hope y’all had a great new year’s eve. We usually enjoy a movie while we wait for midnight. Last night we watched Monsters Inc. It has been a while since we watched that movie. I love the part when Sully thinks Boo is in the trash compacter and he is fainting. We just laugh and laugh at that part every time.
After, we talked about what we want to learn or do in 2013. We only chose three things, but there is so much more. I think if we start small and can feel the accomplishments, then we can add as we complete some goals.
I chose:
1) Learn how to sew – Gosh, I have been wanting to learn for y-e-a-r-s. This is my year. I am taking the kids with me. I bought a sewing program from ModestyMatters. I can’t wait to begin. (shh, I bought the quilting one too. She had a great Black Friday deal. I guess quilting can be included with sewing.)
2) Continue my health journey and bring the family along – It will be the kids mostly, but I know once my husband sees the great results, he will want to join. *wink* This includes expanding my cooking from scratch, mostly bread and bagels, making detergent, shampoo, toothpaste, etc. and soap (one thing I have been wanting to try), and learning about herbs for home remedies.
3) To pray more with my husband and children. I feel the Lord has been putting this on my heart for a long time. Like a naughty child, I haven’t done it yet. I need to bring my disobedience before Him so I can feel his blessing on it once again.
I have many more things I want to do, but these are my top three for now.
We toasted the new year with some yummy sparkling apple cider. I don’t know what it is, but I can never drink anything carbonated because it gives me the hiccups. And sure enough, I got the hiccups after the first sip. The kids were laughing at with me as I squawked every few seconds. I wanted to finish my glass before I went for the water to get rid of them. I wasn’t thinking and poured me a whole glass.
We don’t do the all night thing. Don and I watched a couple episodes of Fringe after the kids went to bed. We didn’t hear too many gun shots this year.
I have a New Year gift for you, my blog readers. I usually sell these in my store, but for two weeks, they are free for you. enjoy!
These are great devotionals for children written by Francis Ridley Havergal. They are each one month long, so they can be reread each month or every few months.
Link Expired. BUT, you can find both these items in my store.
Morning Bells is an adorable devotional for children to read first thing in the Morning.
They can follow by reading Little Pillows in the Evening. I have had my own children read upon awakening in the morning.
I have even been blessed as I re-read it while formatting this copy.
It is great to know of the wonderful Saviour we have in Jesus Christ. Nothing, NOTHING, compares to his abundance of love that he so freely gives us all.
It is my prayer that you and your children will be blessed by these wonderful devotionals.
I pray you have a blessed new year.
Blessings,
Thank you for these! And a Happy New Year to yours as well! 🙂
At first, I thought these were for little people, but after reading a few of the devotionals, I felt touched myself, so I downloaded them for Joshua. I’m thinking I may be able to squeeze them in as summer devotionals. 😉
I like that you are going to learn to sew. I have always wanted to learn. I got a “D” in sewing class in the 7th grade. That was not a good experience for me and just put me off of it altogether. You know who does all the mending around here…so embarassed to say…my husband. His mom sews and he learned to do lots of mending from her, but I have trouble sewing a button on one of my shirts. ugh…maybe one day. 😉
May the Lord help you reach all of your goals!
Blessings,
Dee 🙂 🙂 🙂
ps We love Monster’s Inc. around here!
LOL! I know what you mean about sewing. 🙂 I can sew a button, but that is about it. It has always been my dream to sew my own clothes. Well maybe not always, but since I was about 20 or so. My mom said she would teach me when I asked, but then I procrastinated and she went to be with the Lord. I wouldn’t have waited around for me either if I was her. 🙂 I just bop myself on the head when I think of the opportunity I missed, not only to learn, but to spend that time with my mom. 🙁
I hope you enjoy the devotionals. I am thinking of having the kids read these devotionals again since it has been a while. I think they are great reminders of God’s love for us and our own unworthiness. It may sound odd to some, but I want my kids to know they are nothing, nothing without God anyway. It is my prayer this year that their walk with the Lord will flourish.
